My name is Christina Handley and I am the President of Allegheny Aquatic Alliance. My husband and I are outdoor enthusiasts and avid kayakers. We enjoy being immersed in the pure beauty of nature. Last year, during one of our kayak trips down this near-by local creek we experienced first-hand how little respect some people have for our waterways. Due to the very low water level at that time, we were able to see the enormous amount of garbage and debris that consumed this creek. Piles of tires lined the shores and the creek bed. All sorts of old appliances, tools, plastic containers, and etc. were scattered throughout the creek during the entire 7 mile trip. It was horribly shocking but opened our eyes to the real conditions of our local waters. We were inspired and spent the past winter educating ourselves to the current threats facing our water. We have organized fundraisers for other water conservation nonprofits and now feel that we need to take more action due to the severity of our water crisis.
